The long-awaited sequel to cult movie classic Tron may still be several months away from its release in December, but we’re already seeing a huge amount of related merchandise being released – from clothing to PC peripherals and remote controlled vehicles to music stations…..

There can be no question of the buzz that surrounds Tron: Legacy, in which Jeff Bridges reprises his role from the original Tron as Kevin Flynn; trapped in self-created digital universe for 20 years. 3D, fluorescent lights, super-fast bikes, frisbees that can cut your head off, characters residing inside a computer and a Daft Punk soundtrack – what else could any tech freak ask for (OK, there’s one of those, too. Her name’s Olivia Wilde)?

To give a little flavour for what to expect, check out Dave Cobb’s footage of the Tron: Legacy event at Comic Con last year that he shot on his iPhone. It’s a little grainy but good enough to give you the whole vibe; the dark, dramatic Daft Punk track booming in the background setting the scene for a quite magnificent reveal; you can almost feel the assembled crowd completely geeking out.

Being a Disney film, there’s always a worry that the end result will end up toned down and tame, but between the released synopsis, the trailer and insider rumours, things are looking promising. It also sounds as if Tron Legacy is in capable hands – director of the original cult classic Stephen Lissberger is on board as a producer and, let’s be honest; bad Jeff Bridges films are few and far between.

Here’s a look at the brand new trailer currently doing the rounds in the cinemas….

And, wherever there’s a cool film, there’s sure to be some merchandising – and it’s no different with Tron: Legacy. Thankfully though, Disney seem to have really made an effort with every official product and there is some extremely innovative stuff waiting on a release. We’ve had a good look around to find you the some of the coolest-looking toys and accessories you are likely to see this year. All are due out around October………………Click on the titles if you want to make a purchase.

TRON Legacy Light Cycle

Remote-controlled vehicles are one thing, but the remote-controlled Tron Legacy Light Cycle is an entirely different prospect. You see, in Kevin Flynn’s computer universe, the laws of physics don’t quite apply like they do in our world.

So how can it be replicated in real life? Simple – just install Spin Master’s very own “Zero G Technology”, so the bikes can drive up walls and upside down on the ceiling.

There’s plenty more to get excited about, too. Each bike leaves a 6-foot long light trail in its wake – just like in the film – and if you’re racing a friend and cut him/her up a treat, causing them to travel into your trail, the cycle will automatically “crash” and fall off your wall or ceiling.

Next level toys for a next generation movie – expect to pay £79.99 over here…..

Tron Legacy iPod Dock

Of course, whilst you’re whiling away the hours playing with your new zero gravity lightcycle, you might want to listen to some tunes. In which case, why not sort yourself out with a Tron: Legacy Dock for your iPod?

Designed in collaboration by Disney and Monster, the Tron Legacy iPod Dock is inspired by the glowing identity disc/frisbee of death that is set to become an iconic feature of the new movie.

Sitting within the circular shape, your iPod will be lit up by the neon, blue-white lighting surrounding it, making it extremely pleasant on the eye – especially in the dark.

However, according to CNet (who also supplied the picture on the left), it will be “massively overpriced” at $250. Looking at the specs sheet, they are probably right – you would be able to pick up something of similar sound quality for more than half the price.

That said, if you’re having a house party, a glowing neon frisbee-shaped sound system is sure to have its merits……

Incidentally, Monster are also releasing a couple of pairs of headphones – again, these will be more expensive than your average pair.

Tron Legacy Games Controller

Movie tie-in peripherals for games consoles are all much of a muchness – unless they come in illuminated neon blue, that is.

Available for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 – as well as a wireless version for the Nintendo Wii – the  console controllers look slick enough to entice a considerable number of gamers – whether they are Tron fans or not.

All normal buttons are accounted for and you’ll still have your vibration, so if you fancy jazzing up your games sessions with some sleek, black and shiny controllers with some seriously cool neon flashes, then keep an eye out this autumn.

The controllers will be launched alongside the Tron:Legacy games title later this year. Makers PDP are also releasing a line of Tron:Legacy design covers for the iPod, iPhone and iPad.

Tron Legacy Computer Mouse & Keyboard

PC owners needn’t fret about being left out from all the neon fun; Disney have collaborated with Razerto come up with a Tron:Legacy-themed keyboard and mouse combination, specifically designed with gamers in mind.

It’s all there on both products; the sleek black base illuminated by the ultra-cool blue glow, which Razer say will add “highly detailed finishes and lighting effects” to their “ultimate gaming experience”.

The ergonomic gaming mouse incorporates Razer’s very own 5600dpi 3.5g gaming grade sensor, giving you that extra boost to the tracking when you’re in the middle of your frenzied first person shooters.

The keyboard features programmable keys, macro capabilities,  a detachable keypad and a high precision mouse mat – again, all designed to give you everything you need for your gaming – as well as looking extremely cool.

Adidas Tron Legacy Trainers

It’s not just gadgets that are getting the Tron treatment – these trainers from adidas were on display at the San Diego Comic Con and spotted by the good folks at TOYSAREVIL (who also supplied the photo).

I’m not sure that I’d get away with wearing a pair of these, although I wish I had the bottle. Obviously, there are some parts of the country that you would avoid wearing them for fear of the odd mugging, but let’s be honest – with a pair of glowing neon Tron:Legacy sneaks on your feet, you’ll never run quicker.

The trainers don’t actually glow electronically – which is a pity – but instead provide you with a highly reflective strip and a glow-in-the-dark  stitches.

Also keep an eye out for some sunglasses from Oakley and sport/surfwear from Hurley – all due out before the film’s release in December.
