Microsoft are advertising three different positions on Linkedin for work on what could turn out to be a next generation console. Could we about to start hearing plans for an Xbox 720?

You can find out more about each individual role by clicking on the job titles which will take you to the Linkedin adverts, but here’s the basics:

Position 1: Graphics Hardware Architect. Duties include working with a team that brings a next-gen console from concept to delivery. Experience of leading a 3D graphics core development is essential and the candidate will be required to work with in-house Microsoft teams and ‘partner companies’.

Position 2: Senior Architect and Performance Engineer for the Xbox Console Architecture Group.
Duties include defining and evaluating the product all the way through development to manufacture and taking responsibility for full involvement with the product cycle.

Position 3: Senior Hardware Design Verification Engineer
Duties include reponsibility for ‘design verification and qualification of the Xbox console at the component, motherboard, and system levels’ as well as testing, planning and project-management.

So, good news for gamers; it looks like the next generation Xbox is about to start its journey. However, the real surprise is, just how long it’s taken Microsoft to get started on it – after all, the Xbox 360 came out in 2005; an eon in tech terms.

Oh – and if anyone actually gets a job after reading this, you can send my 10% straight to the office…..
