Audio is often overlooked when it come to games, so it’s a breath of fresh air when a big company comes up with a device geared for that very thing – like the brand new DR-GA500 over-ear headsets from Sony, which are set to be bundled with a copy of the controversial Medal of Honor game for the PS3 on its release in October.

In the game, you can decide to play the part of the Taliban against the American infidel or you can play as the US forces, smoking out those pesky terr’ists – either way, these headphones are going to come in handy when you’re listening out for your enemy.

The DR-GA500 headsets support 7.1 channel surround sound and combined with Dolby Pro Logic IIx, you should be able to hear a pin drop from a virtual 100 yards. You also get a microphone for chatting – although this is only likely to extend its use to screaming the name of Allah/God/Odin/Gilgamesh as you embark on your 18th consecutive suicidal dash to try and reach the rocket launcher.

Of course, the DR-GA500s aren’t exclusively for gaming and should be OK for watching your HDTV and Blu-ray movies, too, as well as listening to music. You can also use the microphone for Skype-type services and they will feature USB connectivity.

The Sony DR-GA500 will be released in September for around £150, or from October 15th with Medal of Honor on the PS3.
