Whatever you think about Apple, you have to admit that they generally get their commercial campaigns right – until now. Their latest ads for the Facetime function on the new iPhone 4 should only be viewed with a heavy duty sickbag close at hand.
Facetime for the iPhone 4 is Apple’s attempt at simplifying the video calling process, offering face-to-face chat or conferencing facilities at the touch of the button – all well and good if you and everyone else you know owns an iPhone 4; if not, then you’re very much out of the loop, I’m afraid.
For those that don’t have an iPhone 4 – then consider yourself on the wanted list; these collection of ads are for your benefit.
Unfortunately though, Apple really have got it wrong on pretty much every level. Presenting a series of touching moments played out over a video call, each of the four ads aims to turn the heads of the viewer by tugging on their emotional heartstrings, but instead, only manage to turn the stomach.
It used to be Microsoft who were champions of the twee advert, but now Apple are catching up. It seems that the further these kind of companies ramp up their balance sheets, the further away from reality they get.
Here’s the new videos for your viewing pleasure. One word of warning though; if you watch them, you will never get that time back again…..
1/ “Smile”….or, “My Dad’s an Idiot”
2/ “Big News”………or, “Don’t Normal People Do This Kind Of Thing When They’re Together?”
3/ “Meet Her” ………..or, “Grandad Can’t Be Bothered To Make It Over”
4/ “Haircut” …….. or, “If These 2 Are The Future Of The Human Race, I’ll Take My Chances In Hell”
