Lenovo are the latest company to embrace the third dimension and have released details of their first 3D laptop, aimed firmly at both gamers and film fanatics.
The IdeaPad Y560d is based around Lenovo’s own 3D technology, TriDef, as opposed to the NVIDIA 3D Vision chip that appear to be in vogue with other models on the market. There’s a 15.6″ screen with a 1366 x 768 resolution display, which works in tandem with a pair of polarizer glasses to produce 3D images – Lenovo say that the combination will actually convert 2D images into 3D.
You will get a choice of specs; the standard version comes fitted out with an Intel Core i3-330M processor, whereas the top end model boasts a Core i7-840QM. Both feature a Radeon HD 5730 1GB graphics card as an optional extra and there’s a range of up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and up to 750GB of storage.
Other features include a normal (non-3D) Blu-ray player, an ATI Radeon HD 5730 1GB video card and a 1.3 megapixel webcam, whilst connectivity comes in the form of Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G.
There’s an HDMI port so you can link up to your HDTV and other ports are available so you can plug in your home cinema system to take advantage of the Dolby surround sound.
There are no UK details yet, but the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d will be available from the end of the month in the US, with prices starting from $1,199.99.
