The new iPhone will be available to order on the 15th June, read on for the full details……..
After countless leaks, fakes and rumours, Steve Jobs has made the Apple iPhone 4 official. There’s been an overhaul of design and the handset now measures just 9.3mm, shaving off almost a quarter of the thickness of the iPhone 3GS – Jobs claims it’s the thinnest smartphone out there.
There’s certainly improvements all round; the new design features stainless steel bands wrapped around the sides of iPhone which not only look good and increase strength, but also offer a boost to the antenna.
The new Apple handset sports a higher quality screen than its predecessors, with a resolution of 960×640 on the 3.5″ screen – this is four times greater than the 3GS and Jobs says this technology has been nicknamed “Retina Display”, as it looks so close to the way the eye perceives things in real life.
There’s 2 cameras – one is front-facing for video-chat via Wi-Fi and the other is a 5 megapixel affair with LED flash, 5x digital zoom and a “backside illuminated sensor” – which improves low-light snaps. You will be able to record video in 720p at 30 frames-per-second and then make use of “iMovie” from the app store – Apple’s latest video editing app which, as well as providing features such as the ability to combining videos and photos together, can also have geo-location added to the data.
In terms of the engine room, there has been a huge improvement. Apple’s very own A4 SoC processor runs the show, which adds more power without draining the battery – you can expect 300 hours of standby, 7 hours of talking and 6 hours of browsing on 3G, 40 hours of music and 10 hours of video – although as ever with self-proclaimed battery stats, take these with a pinch of salt. You will be able to choose between 16GB or 32GB sizes.
Gamers will be pleased, too. Apple have added a gyroscope, which makes the iPhone a little bit like the Playstation 3‘s Sixaxis controller - so it looks like Apple are backing up their desire for games development to finally become a serious feature of the handset – and we can probably expect to watch this technology transfer to the iPod, as well.
If you order your new iPhone on the 15th June, you can expect it by the 24th. There’s no pricing yet, but we’re expecting news very soon…….
